Barbara Gray Senior Consultant Beth Carpenter and Associates

Barbara Gray has accumulated more that 20 years of experience in health care management and operations having a successful record as a leader and innovative problem solver creating organizations capable of delivering on their promises of revenue growth, margin performance and outstanding service. She is experienced in successfully operating at both the branch and corporate level for both for profit and nonprofit organizations. Ms. Gray has succeeded in moving start ups from vision to reality, jump starting organizations to move to the next level, and stabilizing organizations to achieve optimal financial results. 

As an executive of an industry leading hospice care organization, Ms. Gray focused on developing partnerships with physicians, hospitals, nursing homes and other providers to assure that hospice services became a respected and well integrated part of the community’s health care continuum. This included introducing the concept of hospice care to HIV-AIDS service organizations as early as 1985, to nursing homes in 1987, and to assisted living and retirement communities in the early 2000’s. She opened one of the nation’s first freestanding hospital based inpatient units in 1984 and has since opened more than 6 additional units and consulted on the successful operation of many others. At the regional level with oversight of multiple hospice branches, Ms. Gray has directed senior management teams in business planning and development, census and admissions growth, and financial management results. She has implemented improved staffing, scheduling and workflow processes, and reduced overutilization.

As a managed care executive, Ms. Gray was the first COO of an innovative PPO joint venture of six prominent not-for-profit community hospitals in South Florida. She was responsible for negotiating Managed Care Agreements with major third party payers on behalf of the PPO as well as assuring the quality, breadth and marketability of the network.

She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Masters Degree in College Teaching and of the University of Florida with a Bachelors Degree in English.
